What's DB/DBZ ? Why did you chose this theme ?
SSJ3Goku:
DB/DBZ is a very popular manga which is very popular on TV, too. It's famous almost all over the world. The drawer Akira Toriyama started to draw it since about 15 years. We chose the theme because there aren't lots of really good DBZ-Games (except for the 2D range).
JeDiDrAko :
How did you concieve the idea to develop DBU ?
SSJ3Goku:
We're big Dragonball and DragonballZ fans and when we saw some mods in the internet that weren't ready, we thought "why don't we develop such a mod ?"
JeDiDrAko :
DBU pristinely was DBUT - why didn't you continue with your old name ?
SSJ3Goku:
First it was "The Power Within". Kenshin that formerly was the leader of my clan has founded TPW. First I joined (the project) as a mapper. When TPW became bigger, Jelmer Boskma joined the team. He only was co-leader and Devil Magna modeller (very talented), and a short time after that, he became the leader. But he became angry and founded Final Might. After a short time the two mods united. JBoska and Kenshin later gave up the project and I wanted to continue the project so I asked all the members if I could use their work and I continued DBUT. But the name was no longer DBUT but DBU.
SSJ3Goku:
I changed the name to show that the team leaders are no longer the same and that the mod is better organized now and that the members work better now etc.
JeDiDrAko :
Is it difficult to develop a mod whose theme often was copied ? There're mods with the same theme for HalfLife, Quake3 and so on, too. Can you nevertheless create something innovative ?
SSJ3Goku:
No mod resembles the other. Quake 3 Arena and UT have the same game concept, but they're all the same different.
JeDiDrAko :
What are your goals for the mod ?
SSJ3Goku:
We want to approach DBZ as much as possible, to that, if DBZ, DB or DBGT finishes anytime, you still have it at home.
JeDiDrAko:
Which gamemodes have you planned?
SSJ3Goku:
First of all Deathmatch (just like UT Deathmatch), then Team Deathmatch, Battle for Earth and Capture the Dragonballs (CtD). In Battle for Earth there will be a Superopposer you can't kill with normal attacks and a super strong "Good Guy" that has to do a super attack to kill his opposite. During that his helpers have to protect him and the super opposer has to destroy the world (there will be a special map for this mod). There is also CtD: it's just like CTF, with the difference that you have to gather Dragonballs.
JeDiDrAko:
What characters will occur in DBU?
SSJ3Goku:
For DBZ we are planning Son Goku, Vegeta, TenShinHan, Freeza, Son Gohan,Yamcha, Krillin and Piccolo. These are all first (the SSJ forms will also be included).
For Dragonball we are planning Yamcha, Krillin, Master Kame, Son Goku, Lunch and Tenshinhan.
JeDiDrAko:
So you're planning two modes. What's the DB-Mod?
SSJ3Goku:
It's a DB based UT Mod.
JeDiDrAko:
Are you going to take the original attacks and sounds from the serie or to think of something own?
SSJ3Goku:
The attacks will be taken from the serie, so you can fire off a kamehameha or do a genkidama yourself. The sounds will be taken from the japanese serie (perhaps from the english serie as well).
JeDiDrAko :
Is it difficult to organize an international mod ? How do you manage this ?
SSJ3Goku:
Above all, you need a lot of time. If there's only one team leader, he has to be online a lot to reach all the members...If not, there're still emails, or not ?
JeDiDrAko:
How far have you gotten/got with the mod yet?
SSJ3Goku:
I would say we have finished about 37% of the models and about 35% of the whole game.
JeDiDrAko:
When can we await the first beta ?
SSJ3Goku:
In about 4 or 5 months, maybe earlier as well. It depends on whether we get some more coders.
JeDiDrAko:
Is there anything else you want to tell the fans out there?
SSJ3Goku:
