    quote:
DNF is also famous for its use of engines but the truth on the matter is:

Scott: We started with the Quake engine, but within six or so months we switched to the Unreal engine. However, I?m reminded of the story about the man who claimed to own the axe that George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree. The man said, ?Yeah, it?s the same axe alright, but the head and handle have both been replaced a few times over the last 200 years of use.? The same applies with the Unreal engine we licensed so long ago.

    DNF  DNF News-Happen   Dreadnought 03.02.2005

    - DNF "Done when it's done"

DNF  Der Duke auf der E3 ?   Doomh 26.01.2005

    quote:
I was thinking the other day...

I was 15 years old when they started working on Duke Nukem Forever. I am 22 years old now.

Since 3DRealms started development on Duke Nukem Forever, I have:

    1) Gotten my drivers license
    2) Graduated High School
    3) Had sex for the first time
    4) Went to college
    5) Bought a car
    6) Finished College
    7) Gotten a job as a programmer
8 ) Watched ID Software release 5 games
    9) Been through 3 Van Halen singers and 3 albums
    10) watched my little sister graduate high school
    11) watched my little sister go to college
    12) watched my little sister graduate college

    wow, long dev cycle.
    quote:
We started over a couple of times and had some false starts. We had some technical issues early on that really kept us from progressing. It isn't as if we've worked on the same game all this time.

We've been on our current version since late 2002/early 2003 and things that we made then are still in the game and intended to ship.

Nobody knows how long it's been, better than us

Doomh 30.05.2004
Diese Botschaft ( wen wundert es eigentlich ? ) lies
George Broussard im offiziellem 3D Realms - Forum heute verlauten.
    quote:
IMO, it's more abusive to the community to continue to talk about and show the game when it's not real close to release. What's the point of leading people on? The best thing we can, and should do, is to shut up, finish the game and start showing it and talking about it when it's near enough release that people can actually see light at the end of the tunnel.

DNF  Duke did it again: Vaporware Award   Dreadnought 21.01.2004
    quote:
A Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Duke Nukem Forever on the suggestion of reader Jeff White, who wrote, "First proposed in 1801 (or something close to that), Duke Nukem Forever has now come to define the term 'vaporware.' I wouldn't be surprised if dictionaries actually began printing it: 'vaporware: n. See Duke Nukem Forever.'"

    DNF  DNF-Special@Krawall   Dreadnought 19.01.2004

    quote:
    "Whats the engine status?"
Done, mostly optimized, ready for prime time. There isn't a single engine feature holding up production. We could ship now if we had all the content done.

"Is it using any of the direct x 9.x features?"
    It's a full DX9 engine.

"Can the engine be compared to: HL2, Doom3, STALKER, FarCry."
That's up for you guys to judge later. We think it's competitive.

DNF  DNF in einem Jahr?   Dreadnought 18.12.2003

DNF  DNF: Ihr seid gefragt   Dreadnought 18.06.2003
    quote:
Some are real (so you can relate to them), some are not. Kind of how Duke 3D was. I'll take this chance to ask you all...what kind of whacky/sci-fi guns would you like to see? Things like the Shrink Ray, etc.

    quote:
DNF is a dx9 only game[...]
It'll run on non dx9 cards, but you may lose or have degraded visuals as we're definitely using dx9 features. We're not going to cut out a card like a GF3, but we aren't going to be constrained by it either and not support the high end[...]

You just won't get as many features, and some things may not look as nice. They will still look nice comapred to other GF3 level games. But better if you have a 9800 or something[...]

DNF probably won't run on anything lower than a GF3. We're debating about GF2's and it's possible, but the hardware just isn't there.
