Here are my reasons for Unreal Tournament 2003 from Epic Games and Digital Extremes receiving First Person Shooter Of The Year. To begin with the game is just incredibly gorgeous for a game in which half of everything goes by you at blazing speed. The environments are lush in detail and there is a nice variety in locales, the shadowing and use of lighting in the game is great. |

Then there is the new game mode, Bombing Run, the Adrenline pills and their special moves, and the new editor which is suppose to be a lot easier for modders. There are many, many great shooters that came out this year - NOLF 2, Battlefield 1942, Medal Of Honor: Allied Assualt - that could have gotten this award but as far as pure shooters go you just can't beat the Unreal/Epic/DE combo - they are on top of their game and I have a feeling we have many more great things from them on the way -- Dark Sector and Unreal Warfare (or whatever it's going to be named) are good places to start, no? |
