Der Lead Designer bei Digital Extremes, James Schmalz, wurde von GlobeTechnology.com anlässlich des 10-jährigen Jubiläums von DE interviewed. Heraus kam dabei zum Beispiel folgendes:

Q: You came from the shareware days, and the days when one person could make a game on their own. Do you ever get nostalgic for those days?

A: I love the idea, and it's still doable today, it just depends on what game you want to make. I think there's just as much success available to somebody who's creative and dedicated to make a "Lone Wolf" type game. You're not going to make it for the PlayStation 2, you're not going to make it for the Xbox, but I'm sure you could make it for the PC. Maybe for the Game Boy. Or a Web-based game. It depends on what you want to accomplish.
