UnrealEngine  Devastation Interview   lara 17.01.2003
text (short)

text (long)
quote:
Why was a post-apocalyptic setting chosen for Devastation, and what influenced the game?s plot?

The storyline and design doc painted a very bleak and messed up picture of the future. It?s a vision that was in and of itself a key part of the story, caused by events in the story, and a catalyst for the events which occur in it as well. Simply put, it wouldn?t have worked in any other way; the setting necessitates the story and vice-versa.

The plot is a completely original concoction pulled and penned from our collective psyches. All of us here share having been milk fed on pulp sci-fi, hardcore cyberpunk literature, and a healthy dose of Cold War 1980?s doomsday-paranoia: common if you grew up waayyy back in those days. On top of all this, it was landmark films like Blade Runner, The Terminator, and Mad Max that messed with our heads, influenced this storyline, and put our therapists? kids through college.
