text (long) The game is not done yet so there's no chance that anyone has played a "final" version. If this version was laggy that might just have been an anomaly. It is not uncommon for there to be more than one build a day and it is very common for bugs to creep in that drastically affect performance one day and are eradicated the next after everyone has had a chance to play the build and give their complete feedback. It's quite possible our publisher showed one of those builds. I don't recall that they asked us which build to use for this event because this isn't like a big press tour or a major trade show where the whole team would stop and thoroughly test a build and declare it suitable for showing. The demo is the milestone we're working toward right now.
As for release dates the only release date is "when it's done". We still have not completed the demo. For UT2003 we plan to do exactly what we did with UT - release the demo, gather feedback and bug reports, fix the bugs, assess the feedback, modify the game, and then possibly release another version of the demo to repeat the process - all of this BEFORE the game goes final. I don't see any way for all that to happen, and to get the game in a box and in stores, in time for the date you said. So this is yet another fictional date that should be treated as such.
