quote: HomeLAN - First, what was learned from the release of UT 2003?
Cliff Bleszinski - UT2003 did extremely well for us, both critically and commercially. However, there's always room for improvement and we're never happy with any level of success around here. If our last release sold one million units and scored a 90% average we going to strive for three million units and 98% reviews next time. Hitting that mark is tricky with a small team and we have to continue to strive to reinvent ourselves if we're going to remain a triple A developer.
In hindsight I would have loved for UT2003 to introduce vehicular combat with a great unique twist on it. Live and learn, I suppose, which is why UT2004 is going to feature this kind of dynamic in spades! |
UT2004 Preview @ GamesDomain
quote: Gameplay in 2004 is still fast and furious, with a strong emphasis on speed and destruction. After playing a few rounds of 2004, going back to something like Halo feels positively lethargic. Bot AI has been tweaked and, in deathmatch at least, they are intelligent enough to pass as human players. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the bot AI are the mistakes they also make. Ah, to be human. Complementing the rough-and-tumble feel of the game is the new announcer. Sounding a lot meaner than his 2003 incarnation, the commentary provided is laced with just the right touch of sarcasm. |
